A Delhi-bound Air India flight travelling from Canada's Toronto was reportedly diverted to Germany's Frankfurt as several onboard lavatories became clogged and unusable.

However, as per media reports, an Air India spokesperson later claimed it was a "technical issue" that forced the diversion.

According to Flightradar24.com, the diverted flight, which was a 15.8-year-old Boeing 777-337 (ER), resumed its journey from Frankfurt within a couple of hours.

In under two months, Air India encountered the similar situation twice where an wide-body aircraft was forced to divert mid-flight due to clogged lavatories.

Previously, on March 6, another Delhi-bound Air India flight was forced to return to Chicago after all but one of the plane's toilets were stopped functioning. As per media reports, insiders suggested that the age of the fleet makes it susceptible to plumbing problems while covering long aviation routes.

Commenting on the inconveniences, earlier Air India officials reportedly said that the interconnected and older pipes are susceptible to blockages when waste tanks become choked, potentially affecting multiple lavatories.

Moreover, flushing down items such as polythene bags, rags, and clothes leads to the clogging alongside improper disposal of garbage by passengers in the toilets.
