Violence broke out in Bengal바카라s Murshidabad district on Tuesday during an anti-waqf protest which resulted in the arrest of 22 people. The Internet got suspended. A 48-hour prohibitory order has been imposed which prohibits the assembly of five or more people in any single place.
What Happened?
According to the police sources, a movement was organised by several organisations regarding the recently passed Waqf (amendment) bill at Murshidabad바카라s Jangipur area. Rajarshi Mitra, the district magistrate of Murshidabad said, 바카라They had called for protest rallies and blocked a national highway. When police tried to lift the blockade the incident took place.바카라
When the police used force to remove the road blockade, one of the protesters fell and rumours spread that the protester was seriously injured or died. This fueled the movement and the protesters started throwing stones at the police officers. Multiple police vehicles were vandalised. A police officer alleged that two of the police vehicles were torched. The police started firing teargas shells. They lathicharged at the protestors. After several hours, the situation was under control.
Twenty two people were arrested. The internet service got suspended in the area. West Bengal Police posted on X saying, 바카라The situation in Jangipur is completely under control.Traffic has returned to normalcy on the national highway. Waqf (Amendment) Bill
The Waqf (amendment) act got passed in both of the houses last week. It amends the Waqf act 1995, restructuring its management and regulation policies. The leaders from the opposition parties protested against this act by saying it 바카라discriminatory against muslims바카라. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi slammed it by calling it a 바카라Brazen assault on constitution바카라. But BJP defended the bill by stating that the bill aims to bring transparency, reduce corruption and a better management of Waqf properties.
