A controversy erupted after Congress left out their senior leader Shashi Tharoor's name for all-party delegation for a diplomatic exercise but was later included in the list announced by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party questioned if the party was 'insecure or jealous' of Tharoor.
Centre has decided to send all-party delegation to foreign countries for highlighting India바카라s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism in the wake of the Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 people and to counter Pakistan on Kashmir and cross-border terrorism.
Thiruvananthapuram MP Tharoor was named by the central government to head one of seven all-party delegations set to visit key global capitals.
What Did BJP Say?
BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya took to X platform to speak about Congress leaving out MP Shashi Tharoor's name in the delegation list and questioned if it is 'jealousy or insecurity' of the grand-old party.
Malviya's post on X read, "No one can deny Shashi Tharoor's eloquence, his long experience as a United Nations official, and his deep insights on matters of foreign policy."
"So why has the Congress Party - and Rahul Gandhi in particular - chosen not to nominate him for the multi-party delegations being sent abroad to explain India's position on key issues?"
He continued to ask, "Is it insecurity? Jealousy? Or simply intolerance of anyone who outshines the 'high command'?"
Did Congress Leave Out Shashi Tharoor From Delegation?
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has been appointed to lead the all-party delegation to foreign countries for highlighting India바카라s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, despite not forming a part of the list of names proposed by the Indian National Congress (INC).
While releasing a statement on X, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh asserted that, "Yesterday morning, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju spoke with the Congress President and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The INC was asked to submit names of 4 MPs for the delegations to be sent abroad to explain India's stance on terrorism from Pakistan."
The Congress party had suggested the names of former Union cabinet ministers Anand Sharma, deputy leader of INC in Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain and Lok Sabha MP Raja Brar, according to Ramesh.
However, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs later announced that Shashi Tharoor, along with BJP leaders Ravi Shankar Prasad and Baijayant Panda, Janata Dal (United) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, DMK's Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Supriya Sule, and Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MP Shrikant Shinde will constitute the all-party delegation.
Tharoor Accepted Invitation
Tharoor, who represents Thiruvananthapuram in the Lok Sabha and chairs the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs accepted the invitation.
In a post on X, he confirmed, "I am honoured by the invitation of the government of India to lead an all-party delegation to five key capitals, to present our nation바카라s point of view on recent events. When national interest is involved, and my services are required, I will not be found wanting."
