Acting on a directive from the Delhi High Court, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Municipal Corporation on Monday began demolishing illegal constructions along the drains in Taimoor Nagar, South Delhi. The joint operation began at 9 a.m., with more than half a dozen bulldozers deployed to clear the encroachments.

The unauthorised structures, which had existed for years, reportedly stretched over half a kilometre and significantly obstructed sewage flow, contributing to chronic waterlogging issues in the area. Despite repeated notices from the authorities, residents failed to comply, prompting legal intervention.

On April 28, a division bench of the Delhi High Court ordered the immediate removal of these encroachments, citing environmental and civic concerns. Monday바카라™s demolition drive marked the first major enforcement action in the area following the court바카라™s ruling.

Authorities said the operation will continue over the next few days to ensure complete compliance with the court바카라™s order.

"This Court is of the considered view that the waterlogging witnessed in various parts of Delhi on the said date (May 1 and 2), including in South Delhi, is attributable, at least in part, to the inability of the Taimoor Nagar drain to effectively discharge rainwater downstream due to these obstructions바카라¦ individuals who have encroached upon public land and erected unauthorised structures, being limited in number, cannot be permitted to assert their purported rights in priority of other citizens," the decision bench of Justices Prathiba Singh and Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora observed during the hearing of a petition moved by 14 encroachment dwellers.

During the drive, a large number of personnel drawn from the Delhi Police and paramilitary forces were deployed to control the situation, apart from the DDA and municipality officials.

However, locals questioned the demolition drive, saying they have been living here for the last 40 to 50 years, and the notice was served a few days ago. They have no place to shift and demanded that the government make arrangements for their rehabilitation. However, the administration said the drive was done following the court order.
