The International Day of Yoga is observed on June 21 every year since 2015 which highlights the ancient Indian tradition for boosting physical and mental well-being. This year the theme of International Yoga Day is 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' which is aimed at aligning yoga with sustainability and global well-being.

The word "Yoga" has been derived from the Sanskrit root 바카라yuj바카라 which means "to join" or "to unite", in order to symbolise the unity of 'mind and body'; 'thought and action' as well as harmony between 'human and nature'.

The national event of International Yoga Day 2025 will be led by the Prime Minister at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

According to Press Bureau of Information in India, the theme for the 11th International Day of Yoga is 바카라Yoga for One Earth, One Health.바카라

In a statement they said that the theme echoes 'a vital truth' about the interconnectedness of health, sustainability, and the environment and it also aligns with India's 바카라One Earth, One Family, One Future바카라 vision which was highlighted during its G20 summit last year.

Who Started International Yoga Day?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had introduced the proposal for establishing the International Day of Yoga in his address during the opening of the 69th session of the General Assembly on September 27, 2014 and was endorsed by a record 175 member states.

Recognizing its universal appeal, on December 11, 2014, the United Nations proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga by resolution 69/131.

Under the Ministry of AYUSH, this day has been observed every year since its first edition in 2015 in India and globally with the support from state governments, Indian missions abroad and UN agencies.

Why Is International Yoga Day On June 21?

The date of June 21 was chosen for International Yoga Day because it is the Summer Solstice, which is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

This day also represents a symbolic harmony between nature and human wellness and is important in many cultures, as per reports.
