At least 12 people died and 41 injured after the Pakistan army resorted to heavy artillery and mortar shelling targeting forward villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, according to PTI. During the intervening night of May 6 and 7, Indian armed forces carried out missile attacks on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in the wake of April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
The Indian Army said that it is responding to the shelling in a befitting manner, resulting in multiple casualties on the enemy side after several of their posts engaged in firing were destroyed.
Jammu and Kashmir바카라s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah convened a meeting on Wednesday to assess the escalation. He met with officials of the security measures, suggesting protecting the lives of civilians.
What did Omar Abdullah say?
바카라Assessed the ground situation along the border and LoC. Divisional Commissioners and DCs briefed on the prevailing situation. Emphasised on safeguarding civilian lives and ensuring timely response at all levels,바카라 The Office of Chief Minister, J&K, posted on X this morning. In a separate post, the chief minister declared an immediate release of contingency funds to all Deputy Commissioners.
He later spoke to ANI, 바카라There is no need to be scared, there is no shortage of essential supplies. The blood banks are also stocked.바카라 Abdullah stated that this escalation began in Pahalgam where 26 innocent people were killed.

The CM continued to mention that the central government on Wednesday responded to the Pahalgam attack in a just manner, by not attacking residential, civilians or militarily crucial locations. 바카라The areas where people had been living for the last 30-35 years, spreading destruction and chaos in Jammu and Kashmir. He continued to say that we would not have seen this day if people were not killed in Pahalgam.
He said that Jammu and Kashmir was living in peace, and tourism was blooming. The ceasefire was also in place. 바카라These were not conditions we had created. We had to respond to what happened in Pahalgam.바카라
Abdullah mentioned that evacuation measures are in place in case of emergence, saying that at the moment, our civilian areas are their primary targets.
Lastly, he said that there is no need to panic. The highways remain open for commuters, and the tourists do not have to run away from Jammu and Kashmir. The schools in Srinagar are also functioning today.
"In view of the prevailing situation, all schools, colleges and educational institutions in Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch will remain closed today," Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar said on X.
