A male Bengal tiger was killed and dismembered in Dusutimukh village in Assam's Golaghat district on Thursday by a 1,000 strong mob. The mob alleged that the tiger killed a man around a month ago and attacked the livestock in the past weeks, as per The Times Of India.
"Nails, teeth and skin of the tiger were taken away before the forest staff could recover them," TOI quoted Forest official Gunadeep Das
The mob used spears, machetes and iron rods while they chased the animal, killing it between 8:00 AM-9:00 AM, around 20 kms away from the Kaziranga National Park. The mob also took dismembered body pieces of the tiger with them as trophies by the time authorities arrived.
The carcass has been sent for an autopsy, after which its remains were cremated.
Das told TOI that the animal died of sharp wounds and not gun wounds. While three officials were injured in the attempt to save the tiger, so far one man has been arrested and the investigation is underway.
바카라It was a very painful act. Earth is not only for humans, it is for animals as well. Wild animals also need space,바카라 Mrinal Saikia, Assam MLA said.
Tigers are protected under Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, listed as "endangered" on the International Union for Conservation of Nature바카라s red list of threatened species. Assam is home to 227 tigers, according to the 2022 census, TOI reported. This marks the third tiger death in Assam this year.
