A Rajasthan state government employee was detained on Wednesday night in Jaisalmer on suspicion of spying for Pakistan, according to officials from the state intelligence department, PTI reported.
The accused, identified as Shakur Khan, was working in the district employment office and was taken into custody following surveillance prompted by intelligence inputs suggesting potential links to espionage activity.
Officials say the case came to light after Khan's mobile phone was found to contain contact numbers associated with Islamabad. 바카라There were inputs about Shakur Khan being possibly involved in spying for Pakistan. He was kept under surveillance and was detained last night,바카라 an official confirmed.
Khan was reportedly on duty in the district administration바카라s control room during Operation Sindoor, a recent internal security exercise, according to a report by India Today. Previously, Khan served as a personal assistant to former Congress minister Shale Mohammad. Both men are from the same village in Rajasthan.
Following his detention, Khan was interrogated by a joint team of intelligence officials in Jaisalmer before being taken to Jaipur for further questioning. During the preliminary investigation, Khan was unable to account for the Pakistani-linked phone numbers on his device. He also admitted to having visited Islamabad multiple times바카라six to seven times in recent years바카라raising further suspicion, authorities said.
While officials have not yet uncovered any military or classified information on his phone, they noted that several posts had been deleted, and his financial records are currently under scrutiny.
Central investigative agencies are expected to take over the interrogation in Jaipur, with further developments anticipated in the coming days.
The arrest comes on the heels of another high-profile espionage case, in which the National Investigation Agency (NIA) detained a CRPF personnel, Moti Ram Jat, for allegedly leaking sensitive national security information to Pakistani intelligence operatives. Jat is believed to have been actively involved in espionage activities since 2023.
The two arrests have raised alarms within Indian security agencies, who are now intensifying efforts to crack down on infiltration and intelligence breaches.
