2023 ODI World Cup Champions Australia have suffered a massive blow after their captain Pat Cummins is 'hugely unlikely' to play the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, starting from February 19. (More Cricket News)
This meant that Steve Smith or Travis Head could be in line to lead the Kangaroos, their team coach Andrew McDonald revealed
Cummins, 31, is currently not been part of the Australian team's tour of Sri Lanka due to the birth of his second child. Cummins is also recovering from an ankle issue he suffered during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
바카라Pat Cummins hasn바카라t been able to resume any type of bowling so he바카라s heavily unlikely, so that would mean that we do need a captain,바카라 McDonald told SEN.
바카라Steve Smith and Travis Head are the two that we바카라ve been having conversations with while we바카라ve been building out that Champions Trophy team along with Pat back home. They바카라ll be the two that we look at for that leadership post.
바카라They바카라re the two obvious ones. Steve has done a great job here in the [first] Test match. He바카라s done some good work in one-day international cricket across the journey as well. So it바카라s between those two.
바카라But, as I said, Patty (Cummins) is hugely unlikely, which is a bit of shame, and we바카라ve also got Josh Hazlewood, who is battling [to be fit] at the moment. So that medical information will land over the next couple of days and we바카라ll be able to shore that up and let everyone know the direction.바카라
Moreover, the Aussies could also miss the services of 34-year-old pacer Josh Hazlewood for the Champions Trophy 2025.
Hazlewood has reportedly suffered a hip injury after recovering from side and calf injuries that forced him to miss three out of the five Tests against India and the Test series against Sri Lanka.
Sean Abbott and Spencer Johnson were roped in as likely replacements. Alongside Cummins and Hazlewood, Australia will also miss the services of all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who is unfit due to a back injury.
