Opting to bat first, Thailand managed to make 124/7 in 20 overs. The opener batter Chaloemwong Chatphaisan was the highest scorer for the Thai side with 46 runs off 36 balls, which included three sixes and one four.

Jandre Coetzee was the only other batter to score a boundary for Thailand. He made 31 runs off 26 balls, including three fours. Captain Austin Lazarus also added 13 runs to the total. No other batter managed to score in double digits.
Cory Dickson and Aue Parima grabbed a brace of wickets each, whereas Jared Tutty, Milton Kavana and Oscar Taylor took one wicket each for the Cook Islands.
Chasing a modest target of 125 runs, the Cook Islands opener, Hayden Dickson Thomas Parima (47 off 34 balls) added 61 runs for the first wicket. But wickets kept falling after that.
Captain Ma'ara Aave (13) and Aue Parima (18) played crucial roles which helped the Cook Islands reach near the target. Eventually, they won the match by three wickets.
Thailand used eight bowlers while defending a modest target, and only Jandre Coetzee and Mukesh Thakur managed to take two wickets each. Jandre Coetzee was named Player of the Match for his all-round performance.
In match 2, the hosts Japan will take in Thailand on Thursday at the same venue, whereas the Cook Islands will play two games on Friday, when they play against Thailand first, then Japan at the same venue.
