Harshit Rana and Mitchell Starc played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2024 and both were involved in a conversation during the match. Starc tried to duck Rana's delivery which was around his chest size but he reacted late and the ball went directly to his helmet. Physio came and after the concussion tests, Starc was ready to go.

Australia's first innings saw a debutant, Nathan McSweeney opening the batting with Usman Khawaja but both were sent back to the pavilion by the Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah within the first few overs. Bumrah went on to disturb many batters and was on a hat-trick once after dismissing Steven Smith for a golden duck. The debutant Harshit Rana chipped in and hit Travis Head's top of the off-stump to claim his maiden Test wicket. Mohammed Siraj got rid of Marnus Labuschagne who made 2 runs off 52 balls. Mitchell Starc and Alex Carey took Australia's inning to a decent total of 104 runs as India managed to get a 46-run lead.

KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the batting in the second innings as India have a 46-run lead. Mitchell Starc opened the bowling attack with Josh Hazlewood from the other end. The third session started with Indian openers taking it from where they left off before the tea. Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood opened the bowling attack and Yashasvi Jaiswal along with KL Rahul seemed to have no problem while facing them.

Yashasvi Jaiswal completed his maiden fifty on Australian soil when he took a single off Nathan Lyon in the 38th over. This is Jaiswal's slowest fifty in Tests, taking 123 balls to get there. India also crossed the 100-run mark and completed the 100-run partnership for the first wicket between Rahul and Jaiswal.

Marnus Labuschagne came to bowl the final over of the second day and he bowled at a decent pace and at right length. Set batter KL Rahul faced some problems but he managed to see him off as India finished Day 2 with a 218-run lead in the game and all 10 wickets left.
