According to a report from ESPNcricinfo, "the IPL chose the three southern Indian cities as part of a likely plan in case it receives approval from the Indian government to resume the tournament."
While efforts are being made to prepare the venues, BCCI officials have noted challenges in quickly resuming the tournament. Teams have begun disbanding, and many overseas players are expected to leave India by the end of Saturday.
Although franchises hope players will return if the tournament resumes in May, there are uncertainties if the window extends beyond May 25, especially with the World Test Championship final starting on June 11.
A total of 57 matches have been completed, with one match called off after 10.1 overs on May 8. There are 12 league matches and four playoffs remaining, with Hyderabad set to host the first qualifier and eliminator, while Kolkata was scheduled for the second qualifier and final.
