Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020) Mumbai Indians have signed English pair of Jonny Bairstow and Richard Gleeson as well as Sri Lankan batter Charith Asalanka for the remainder of this season.
MI have signed the trio for the departing Will Jacks, Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch, who are all set to leave for national duties after MI's last league game.
English batter Jacks will be replaced by English wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow, who will join at a price of INR 5.25 crore.
English pacer Richard Gleeson comes in as a replacement for Ryan Rickelton at a reserve price of INR 1 crore. Sri Lanka's Charith Asalanka replaces Corbin Bosch at a reserve price of INR 75 lakhs.
As per the IPL rules, the replacement players will be available from the Playoffs stage onwards, if Hardik Pandya-led side qualify for the same.
Speaking about the playoffs, Mumbai Indians can book their spot if they beat the Delhi Capitals at home at the Wankhede Stadium in their upcoming match. MI's final league game is against the Punjab Kings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
After yesterday's LSG defeat at the hands of SRH, left MI and DC vying for the final spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs. Mumbai have 14 points to their name after 12 matches while the Axar Patel-led side are on 13 points after the same number of matches.
