The first match of Tuesday's double-header saw Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) posting a big total on the board against the host Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in Kolkata during match 21 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. (Schedule | Teams | Points Table)
Nicholas Pooran (87 not out off 36 balls) and Mitchell Marsh (81 off 48 balls) scored big half-centuries, which helped LSG post the third-highest total at the venue in the history of the IPL. Aiden Markram also played a quick 47-run knock.
Asked to bat first, LSG went berserk from the first over, and the opening duo of Marsh and Markram added 99 runs for the first wicket. After Markram's dismissal, Pooran joined Marsh, and they added 71 runs for the second wicket.
Pooran hit seven fours and eight sixes in his unbeaten knock. Harshit Rana picked up a couple of wickets, but LSG managed to post 238 runs on the board.
Last year, Punjab Kings successfully chased down a 262-run target set by the hosts at this venue. Jonny Bairstow played an unbeaten knock of 108 runs off just 48 balls. Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh also made half-centuries in the match.
KKR's 261 and PBKS' 262 in that match are two totals which are higher than LSG's total of 238 runs in this match. The fourth-highest total is Chennai Super Kings' 235 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2023.
The fifth-highest total is KKR's 232 runs against the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2019. They won that match by 34 runs, and Andre Russell was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten 80 runs off just 40 balls.
