Harshal Patel created Indian Premier League history on Monday when he dismissed Aiden Markram during SunRiders Hyderabad's clash against Lucknow Super Giants. (Match Blog)
Patel's trademark dipping slower yorker foxed LSG opener Markram and the South African was bowled in the 16th over of the innings. The wicket, Patel's first of the night, took his IPL wicket tally to 150 and helped him join some elite lists.
He became the fastest bowler to get to 150 wickets in IPL in terms of ball taken. He took his 150th scalp on his 2381st ball and surpassed the legendary Lasith Malinga who reached the milestone in 2444 balls.
Fastest to 150 IPL wickets (balls taken)
2381 - Harshal Patel
2444 - Lasith Malinga
2543 - Yuzvendra Chahal
2656 - Dwayne Bravo
2832 - Jasprit Bumrah
Patel is also now the second fastest to reach 150 wickets in terms of matches taken in IPL with only Malinga reaching earlier there. Patel has taken 117 matches while Malinga reached the milestone in just 105 games.
Despite the record, Patel did not have the best of nights. He could get only that milestone wicket and went for 49 runs in his four overs. Other SRH bowlers too went for runs and LSG posted a massive 205-run total with the loss of seven wickets.
LSG were once again carried over by their overseas star batters. Openers Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram both got 60s while Nicholas Pooran scored 45. All three have done heavy lifting for LSG this season and the trio has become the first overseas trio with 400 runs each for a team in IPL.
SRH are out of the playoffs while LSG need to win all their remaining matches to keep their slim hopes alive.
