Nicholas Pooran Shocks Cricketing Community With Surprise International Retirement

In a shock to the cricketing world, former West Indies T20I captain Nicholas Pooran retired from international cricket at just the age of 29. The left-hander, who was last seen in action for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, took to Instagram to announce his decision.

Pooran's early retirement has left fans stunned as the aggressive batter is currently at the peak of his powers. In IPL 2025, he finished as the highest six-hitter with 40 maximums. He was also the highest six-hitter at the 2024 T20 World Cup.

With the 2026 T20 World Cup just months away, Pooran's retirement has left the West Indies team with a massive hole to fill. Recently, Heinrich Klaasen also bid adieu to international cricket while Glenn Maxwell said goodbye to the ODI game.

Nicholas Pooran Full Retirement Statement

In his statement, Pooran wrote, "To the cricket public, after much thought and reflection, I've decided to announce my retirement from international cricket. This game we love has given and will continue to give so much 바카라“ joy, purpose, unforgettable memories, and a chance to represent the people of the West Indies."


"Wearing that maroon, standing for the anthem, and giving everything I had each time I stepped on the field... it바카라™s hard to put into words what that truly means to me. To have led the team as captain is a privilege I will always hold close to my heart," he added.

바카라œTo the fans 바카라“ thank you for your unwavering love. You lifted me in the tough moments and celebrated the good ones with unmatched passion. To my family, friends, and teammates 바카라“ thank you for walking this journey with me. Your belief and support carried me through it all. Though this international chapter of my career closes, my love for West Indies Cricket will never fade. I wish the team and the region nothing but success and strength for the road ahead," he added.

Nicholas Pooran Career Stats

Pooran played 106 T20I matches for West Indies and finished as the leading T20I run scorer for his side with 2,275 runs. In ODIs, he scored 1983 runs in 61 matches with an average of 40 and a strike rate of 99.

An out and out six hitter, Pooran ends his career with 229 international sixes.
