Rarely does Jasprit Bumrah get hit for multiple sixes in an over. Josh Inglis took the Mumbai Indians main man for two sixes and two fours in one, clattering 20 runs off the fifth over of the Punjab Kings innings during the Indian Premier League 2025 Qualifier 2 on Sunday (June 1). Bumrah thus went for his most expensive over of the ongoing IPL season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The previous most runs Bumrah had conceded in an over in IPL 2025 was 18, against Delhi Capitals during the sixth over. And the most runs the India pace spearhead has conceded in an over in league history was 27 runs, against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2020.
Bumrah appeared a bit off-colour first up, bowling too full and drifting down the leg side to give Inglis ample opportunities to either swat it into cow corner or free his arms. The Australian batter smoked the third ball five rows past long-on and the sixth one over deep third to complete the thrashing.
To put things in perspective, Bumrah had an economy rate of 6.36, going into this match. That translates to around 25 runs in his four-over spell. Here, he went for 20 runs in his first, showing just how effective Inglis was.
Captain Shreyas Iyer (87 not out off 41 balls) picked things up from there, playing an innings for the ages to power Punjab Kings to a five-wicket win and into the IPL final for the first time in 11 years. They will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the summit clash, meaning we will have a first-time winner this season.
