The 38-year-old Mumbai batter has played 67 Test matches and in 116 innings, he has made 4301 runs with 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries. His best score in the red-ball cricket is 212 runs.

He announced his decision with a story on his Instagram account with his Test cap, writing, "It has been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all of the love and support over the years."

Earlier, it was reported from various news channels that the national selectors had decided to remove Rohit Sharma as captain of India's Test team and go with a new leader for the tour of England that starts next month.

He will continue to lead the Indian team in the ODI format - the only format he has not retired from. He announced his retirement from T20I cricket with his teammate Virat Kohli after winning the ICC T20I World Cup 2024.

Continuing his note, Sharma wrote, "I will continue to represent India in ODI format."

Rohit Sharma's Last Test Match

Rohit Sharma's final Test match was the fourth Test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which India lost. As a result, he was dropped from the fifth match of the series, and India ultimately conceded the series 1-3. Jasprit Bumrah led the Indian team in the fifth match.

Sharma missed the first Test due to the birth of his son, and India won that match under Jasprit Bumrah's captaincy. He joined the team for the second match and captained during the next three matches. India lost the second and fourth matches but managed to draw the third match at The Gabba. During the BGT 2024-25 series, he scored only 31 runs.

Rohit Sharma's Test Cricket Career

Rohit became the captain of the Indian cricket team in 2021 following Virat Kohli바카라™s resignation. His first task as captain was a two-match series against Sri Lanka. During the 2021/23 cycle, he led India to the World Test Championship final, but the team lost to Australia in that match.

Rohit made his Test debut in 2013 against the West Indies and made a scintillating 177 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Walking in with India reeling at 82/4, Rohit conjured a rescue act for the ages, unfurling 23 fours and a six in a 301-ball masterpiece.

He finished his Test career with 4301 runs, which he made with an average of 40.57.

India will visit England for a bilateral series of five Test matches starting from 20 June. Jasprit Bumrah is the front-runner for India's Test captaincy. The Indian squad for the England tour will be announced soon.
