Chelsea give Liverpool the 'Guard of Honour' as we get things ready ahead of kick-off for CHE vs LFC game. Important game for Chelsea though, as they have to secure European qualification.

Fast start from the Champions as Mohamed Salah gets on the right-wing and curls one cross but the ball lands straight into Robert Sanchez's hands.

Enzo Fernandez gives Blues the lead against the Champions. A great move that starts from Romeo Lavia, who passes it to Cole Palmer as he finds Pedro Neto and the Portuguese's cross finds a vacant Fernandez as he slots in the right bottom corner.

Cole Palmer is running the show as the finds Noni Madueke but the winger has multiple options but decides to solo and shoots it way wide off LFC's post.

Now Liverpool look to make an attack of their own as Cody Gakpo rounds his marker and gets towards goal but his effort is finely gathered by Robert Sánchez.

Chelsea are sitting deep and don't want to press the Reds and are looking for one break and counter the champions. It's all about patience and mental fortitude for the Blues players.

Reds are looking off slightly, and understandably as they are the Champions of England. Mo Salah's first touches are not upto the mark and apart from their shots here and there, the visitors are yet to test Sanchez.

Moises Caicedo pulls down Cody Gakpo and concedes a free-kick in a dangerous position. Kostas Tsimikas sends the free-kick but the danger is cleared by CFC players and just as the Liverpool players play it back, the home fans cheer their team.

It's a scrappy game this with both teams vying to fight for the ball. Chelsea are looking bright whenever they attack the LFC goal and are troubling the visitors' backline. The likes of Palmer, Neto and Jackson are terrorising the LFC defence for sure.

The hosts are playing good, intricate football in the midfield and whenever they break, all the Blues attackers surge forward.

Cole Palmer, who is having a fine afternoon, finds Pedro Neto who goes on a terrorising run against Kostas Tsimikas and rounds the Greek defender to shoot wide of the post.

One minute added on and that's that as the referee blows the whistle with Chelsea going into the lead at the break against the Premier League 2024-25 champions.

Chelsea have had 34.2% possession whereas Liverpool have dominated with 65.8% of the ball. However, it is the home team that are in front with a 1-0 lead. If this stays this way, Chelsea will be level on points with Newcastle Utd and one point away from Man City for the UCL spot.

Second-half is underway and Chelsea will look to add to their one-goal lead whereas the Reds eye an equaliser and get back in the game.

Noni Madueke goes on a the run and takes on Alexander-Arnold and gets to the edge of the LFC box and passes it to Jackson but the latter's shot is a tame one. Virgil Van Dijk is shown a yellow for his challenge on Romeo Lavia.

Cole Palmer brilliance sees the England attacker twist and turn the Liverpool left-back as he gets to the byline and crosses but the LFC defence fail to clear and the ball is bundled in their own net by Jarell Quansah as the champions go 2-0 down.

Chelsea, after their second goal, are oozing in confidence as they almost find the third as Nicholas Jackson has the better of Quansah but the forward hits it straight to LFC goalie Alisson.

Conor Bradley, who came on for Trent Alexander-Arnold, is looking sharp and precise. The PL champions need to find a spark from somewhere as they search for an equaliser.

Mo Salah finds an unmarked Darwin Nunez but the Uruguayan hits it wide off the Chelsea post. What a moment of quality from the Reds.

Nicholas Jackson is hooked off as on-loan Man United forward Jadon Sancho makes way. A round boos from the LFC fans greet the Englishman.

How has Mohamed Salah not scored? The Egyptian is met with a neat cross from Kostas Tsimikas as the LFC forward heads it but the ball does not go inside the Chelsea net. Despair for the visitors.

Allison keeps LFC in the game with a great save off Jadon Sancho and then later on, a brilliance from Cole Palmer sees the Englishman hit the post.

We are headed for a grandstand finish as LFC captain Virgil Van Dijk stands tall and heads in from a corner to bring his side back in the contest. Game on!

Can Chelsea hold on here with normal time and additional minutes also remaining. LFC have the winds in their sails and will push for an equaliser.

Reds are fighting hard for the equaliser with a late goal as Virgil Van Dijk opts to play up top but the hosts are keeping it tight.

Chelsea has been awarded a penalty! A foul on Caicedo as referee points to the spot. And Palmer makes no mistake, who is also awarded the Player of the Match, as Chelsea take all three points and importantly build momentum in the UCL spot race.
