Bayern had 30 shots and accumulated 2.4 expected goals on Wednesday, yet fell to a heavy defeat in Rotterdam.

Since Opta began recording such data (from 2003-04), only Sporting Braga v CFR Cluj in September 2012 (38) and Lyon v Rangers in October 2007 (32) have had more attempts in a Champions League fixture without scoring.

The defeat left them 15th in the 36-team standings, and means they are extremely likely to face a qualifying play-off for the last 16.

And Kompany, whose team hit the post in the second half through Leroy Sane and were thwarted by Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow on multiple occasions, was unimpressed by his team's finishing.

"I have to be honest, Feyenoord deserved their win. They fought hard and ran," Kompany told reporters.

"We had many chances. I felt we could have scored one, two or more goals. Feyenoord used their moments well.

"Individually and collectively it wasn't enough from our side today.

"We put the work in we gave it our all but the performance was not just good enough. We had our moments where we could have scored but we did not make the most of them."
