Oh, what a waste. The Wolves create a fantastic opportunity to open the scoring in the 22nd minute but squander it. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde surges ahead from the right and is in a near one-on-one situation with the keeper when he passes it on to Marshall Munetsi instead, who slides in but is unable to get there in time for the finishing touch at the goalmouth.

He is nearing the end of his Manchester City journey and was tipped to make an impact tonight, and Kevin de Bruyne does exactly that. The Belgian midfielder responds to Jeremy Doku's neat cut-back with a smooth finish that beats Jose Sa all ends up. The Cityzens go ahead in the 35th minute at the Etihad Stadium.

Wolves enjoyed the better chances early doors, but it is Manchester City who go into the mid-game interval in the lead, courtesy Kevin de Bruyne's slick finish in the 35th. The visitors are well in the game though, and need just one bright moment to bring the game back on level terms.

The two sets of players are back from the mid-game interval and play resumes. Wolves now attacking from left to right and Manchester City from right to left.

For the second time in the game, Wolves hit the woodwork. Matheus Cunha shoots powerfully towards the City near post and appears to have beaten custodian Ederson too, but the ball ricochets off the upright. City would count themselves lucky to still be ahead.

Rayan Ait-Nouri commits a serious-looking foul, stomping on Bernardo Silva's foot. He is not awarded a card and the video assistant referee is employed to check. Replays indicate that it might have deserved a red, but VAR thinks otherwise and the on-pitch decision stays.

Five minutes of injury time have been added to account for all the stoppages in the second half. Can the Wolves find an equaliser in the nick of time? We'll find out soon.

Wolves earn a corner in the dying seconds of the game but are unable to make anything of it. City hold on to their slender one-goal advantage to claim full three points and move to third in the standings with 64 points.
