The Indian U19 football team successfully defended their SAFF U-19 Championship title, by beating Bangladesh 4-3 on penalties after the match had ended 1-1 in regulation time in Yupia (Arunachal Pradesh) on Sunday. (As It Happened | More Football News)

The home team took lead in the second minute after skipper Singamayum Shami scored a direct free-kick that caught the opposition keeper offguard as the ball went past his gloves and into the net.

Moreover, the Bibiano Fernandes-managed side went on to win a nervy penalty shootout in what were some tensed moments for either team with skipper Shami converting from the spot with his left foot.

Earlier in the tournament, the Indian U19 team had toppled their Group B by romping home to victories over Sri Lanka 8-0 and Nepal 4-0.

This was the first time that Arunachal Pradesh had hosted a tournament of this ilk. All matches were played at the The Golden Jubilee Stadium in Yupia.
