What was Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival controversy?
Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival was originally scheduled to be held in February this year but it got postponed. The Mumbai Police had registered a case against the organisers for allegedly trying to convince people to get sponsorships from multiple companies.
Reports claimed police sources saying that the organisers, including DPIFF founder and Managing Director Anil Mishra, allegedly sold awards in the name of Dadasaheb Phalke to several actors, whose films were commercially unsuccessful.
Later, DPIFF released a statement, mentioning that, "Due to an unforeseen situation and force majeure, including multiple threats from various unions to disrupt the event, Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2025 has been postponed under unavoidable circumstances.
We stand strong against false allegations and remain committed to honouring Indian cinema with even greater grandeur."
Legal counsel took action to challenge the false claims, which were placed under judicial review. A formal clearance and clean antecedent is currently under process with the Bandra Police Station for Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival (DPIFF), Mr. Anil Mishra, and Mr. Abhishek Mishra.
