Writer-director Paul Schrader teared up at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival as his new film 바카라˜Oh, Canada바카라™ received a four-minute standing ovation.
Actor Jacob Elordi was notably absent from the premiere, possibly because he is currently filming Guillermo del Toro바카라™s 바카라˜Frankenstein바카라™, in which he stars as The Monster, reports 바카라˜Variety바카라™.
After the standing ovation, Schrader addressed Elordi not being there, saying, 바카라œI바카라™m very happy with Richard, Uma, Jake -- not here with us -- and it all worked out. I'm very happy to be back here on the Croisette."
As per 바카라˜Variety바카라™, Elordi, whose star continues to rise after acclaimed turns in 바카라˜Saltburn바카라™ and 바카라˜Priscilla바카라™, made his Cannes debut last year in Sean Price Williams바카라™ road movie 바카라˜The Sweet East바카라™.
The drama tells the life story of a troubled writer, Leonard Fife, who, at the end of his life, reflects on his decision to flee to Canada to avoid the Vietnam War draft. Richard Gere plays the present-day Leonard, while Elordi inhabits the character바카라™s younger self. Rounding out the cast are Uma Thurman, Victoria Hill, Michael Imperioli, Penelope Mitchell, and Kristine Froseth.
Schrader has previously been on the Croisette for 1976바카라™s 바카라˜Taxi Driver바카라™, for which he penned the script. The film went on to win the festival바카라™s prestigious Palme d바카라™Or. His 1985 directorial effort 바카라˜Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters바카라™ premiered in competition at Cannes.
