OTT and theatrical releases this week (May 26-June 1): Several OTT platforms including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and JioHotstar, among others, are gearing up to release latest series and movies. OTT releases this week
Criminal Justice Season 4 (May 29) - JioHotstar
The fourth season of Criminal Justice is titled A Family Matter and is directed by Rohan Sippy. The thriller legal drama is led by Pankaj Tripathi.
Tripathi has returned with his character of lawyer Madhav Mishra, who now has a new case revolving around "a torrid love affair and an unforeseen murder", as per the series' official plotline.
It also stars Zeeshan Ayyub, Surveen Chawla, and Asha Negi, the fourth season also stars Mita Vashisht, Shweta Basu Prasad, Khushboo Atre, Barkha Singh, and Aatm Prakash Mishra, in significant roles.
Criminal Justice Season 4 is produced by Applause Entertainment in association with BBC Studios.
HIT: The Third Case (May 29) - Netflix
The Telugu crime thriller, featuring Nani in the lead role, released in theatres on May 1. Nani plays the ruthless and violent police officer. There is a series of shocking murders in similar pattern and Arjun is assigned to crack the case. It also stars Srinidhi Shetty who plays the lead female role. Hit 3 has been directed by Sailesh Kolanu.
Captain America - Brave New World (May 29) - JioHotstar
The superhero film follows Sam Wilson, formerly known as the Falcon, taking his new role as Captain America and facing a threat to global security. The film explores the themes of identity, responsibility and leadership. The Marvel film stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Carl Lumbly, Xosha Roquemore, Giancarlo Esposito, and Liv Tyler, among others.
And Just Like That Season 3 (May 29) - JioHotstar
Sarah Jessica Parker returns as Carrie Bradshaw, in the new season, alongside Kristin Davis as Charlotte York Goldenblatt and Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes.
The Better Sister (May 29) - Prime Video
It follows the story of estranged sisters Chloe and Nicky, played by Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks, whose lives turn upside down following the murder of Chloe's husband, Adam. The thriller series is based on Alafair Burke's bestselling novel. The series explores the themes of family, loyalty and redemption.
A Complete Unknown (May 30) - JioHotstar
Timothee Chalamet starrer which earned eight nominations at the 97th Academy Awards, is all set to premiere on OTT. The biographical musical drama, is about the early life of legendary musician, Bob Dylan.
Retro (May 31) - Netflix
Suriya starrer Retro, which hit the screens on May 1, will release on Netflix on May 31. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Retro revolves around a gangster (Suriya) who swears to give up on violence and leave his past behind but has to break the vow to defeat his enemies and protect his estranged wife (Pooja Hegde).
The film also stars Joju George, Nassar, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Karunakaran, Sujith Shankar, and Prem Kumar, among others in key roles. Music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan. Suriya and Jyotika's 2D Entertainment and Subbaraj's Stone Bench Creations have bankrolled the film.
Thudarum (May 30) - JioHotstar
The Malayalam blockbuster, starring Mohanlal in the lead, will release on OTT on May 30. It can be streamed on JioHotstar not only in Malayalam, but also in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, and Kannada.
Directed by Tharun Moorthy, Thudarum follows the story of a taxi driver called Shanmugham 바카라˜Benz바카라™ (Mohanlal) whose beloved Ambassador car goes missing. In the first half of the film, he leaves no stone unturned to get back his car from the cops, and in the latter half, he is seen taking revenge from the cops.
Lost In Starlight, F1: The Academy, Dept. Q, and Cold Case: The Tylenol Murders on Netflix, and Good Boy on JTBC, are some of the other OTT releases this week.
Theatrical releases this week
Karate Kid: Legends (May 30)
Fans will see new and old faces in their favourite martial arts drama. Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio have reprised their roles as Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso, respectively.
The film follows the story of Li Fong (Ben Wang), a kung fu prodigy who goes to New York City from Beijing and tries to fit in there. He confronts a local karate champion in the new city and both compete in a karate tournament.
Sister Midnight (May 30)
BAFTA and Cannes nominee Radhika Apte starrer Sister Midnight is all set to release on May 30. It is the directorial debut of Karan Kandhari, who has also written the film. It has been produced by Alastair Clark, Anna Griffin, and Alan McAlex.
Apart from Radhika Apte, the film also stars Ashok Pathak, Chhaya Kadam, Smita Tambe, and Navya Sawant.
This dark comedy revolves around Uma (Apte), a newlywed woman in Mumbai, who faces challenges in her married life. She goes through a dramatic transformation as she wants freedom from societal pressures and expectations.
