Model Rachel Gupta has stepped down as Miss Grand International 2024. She announced her resignation from the title on social media on Wednesday, May 28. However, organisers claimed Rachel had been officially terminated.
Why Rachel Gupta resigned as Miss Grand International?
In an Instagram post, Rachel claimed that following her crowning she had been subjected to a "toxic environment, mistreatment and broken promises". She also said that the decision to resign was difficult but the "right one" for her.
Gupta's post read: "Being crowned was one of the most cherished dreams of my life, but the months following my crowning have been marked by broken promises, mistreatment, and a toxic environment I can no longer endure in silence".
She also wrote that the full side of the story will be revealed in a video soon.
She captioned the post, "To all my supporters around the world: I바카라™m truly sorry if this news has disappointed you. Please know this wasn바카라™t an easy decision, but it was the right one for me.
The truth will come out very soon.
I love you all more than words can express. Thank you for standing by me."
Miss Grand International (MGI) Organisation denies her claims
Miss Grand International (MGI) Organisation has another story to it. The organisation shared a statement on Instagram, where they mentioned that Rachel Gupta had been officially terminated from her position. They also asked her to return the crown to the MGI Head Office within 30 days.
An excerpt of their statement read: This decision follows her failure to fulfill her assigned duties, engagement in external projects without prior approval from the organization, and her refusal to participate in the scheduled trip to Guatemala.
As a result, the organization has resolved to revoke her title with immediate effect. Miss Rachel Gupta is no longer authorized to use the title or wear the crown associated with Miss Grand International 2024."
Who is Rachel Gupta?
Rachel Gupta, the 21-year-old model from Jalandhar, Punjab, was crowned Miss Grand International 2024 ,on October 25 last year, at a grand ceremony in Bangkok, Thailand. She became the first Indian to win the first Golden Crown. She also bagged the Grand Pageants Choice Award.
