Covid-19 JN.1 Cases Spike In Asian Countries Of Singapore, China and Thailand

Health authorities in India are also observing reports of a rise in Covid cases in Singapore and Hong Kong even as official sources on Monday asserted the current coronavirus situation in India remains under control.

Cases of Covid-19바카라s resurgent JN.1 variant are on a rise in the Southeast Asian regions of Singapore and Hong Kong, also China and Thailand. The respective health ministries have advised people to take new booster vaccinations.

The new variant is a sublineage of the Omicron strain - which the World Health Organization has declared as 바카라variant of interest바카라 not a 바카라variant of concern바카라 - which means that the organization is observing closely but does not mean that this particular variant is more severe than other Omicron subvariants.

Singapore, China and Thailand

Till May 3, around 14,200 cases have been reported in Singapore and hospitalisation has risen by 30%, the Economic Times reported. The Hong Kong officials have said that the virus바카라 level has reached 바카라quite high.바카라

바카라The Ministry of Health (MOH) and Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) are monitoring a recent increase in COVID-19 infections in Singapore. There is no indication that the variants circulating locally are more transmissible or cause more severe disease compared to previously circulating variants.바카라 Singapore바카라s health ministry stated in a press release dated May 13.

Thailand too has reported a spike in cases, with 33,030 in the week ending May 17, doubling from 16,000 cases reported in the previous week, according to Thailand바카라s Department of Disease Control, NDTV reported. Other cities tally at Chon Buri (2,573), Rayong (1,680), and Nonthaburi (1,482). 

In China, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention stated that between March 31 and May 4, the COVID-19 positivity rate among outpatient and emergency influenza-like cases rose from 7.5 % to 16.2 %, as per media reports.

Cases in India

A review meeting of experts from the National Centre for Disease Control, Emergency Medical Relief division, Disaster Management Cell, Indian Council of Medical Research and Central government hospitals was convened on Monday, as per PTI.

"The meeting concluded that the current Covid-19 situation in India remains under control. As of May 19, 2025, the number of active COVID-19 cases in India stands at 257, a very low figure considering the country's large population.

"Almost all of these cases are mild, with no hospitalization required," an official source told PTI.
