As the world moves past the COVID-19 pandemic, new cases are emerging in parts of Asia. Authorities in Hong Kong and Singapore are on alert as COVID-19 infections surge in the cities' densely populated financial districts, as per the reports.

According to Albert Au, head of the Centre's Communicable Disease Branch, the percentage of respiratory samples testing positive for the virus has hit a record high since last year.

Hong Kong recorded 31 severe cases in the week ending May 3 바카라“ the highest weekly number of cases recorded in a year.

Local Media Reports

According to local media reports, in addition to the increase in positive test results, viral concentrations in sewage samples have also increased.

At the same time, the number of residents seeking care at a hospital or clinic for COVID-19-related symptoms is on the rise.

China Daily Reported Rise Rate Under Control

As per the China Daily reports, the number of COVID-19 infections in China has been steadily rising since early April, but the overall spread of acute respiratory infectious diseases remains low and under control.

They also released data from the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention showing that the COVID-19 positivity rate among influenza-like illnesses at hospitals rose from 7.5 per cent in the seven-day period beginning March 31 to 16.2 per cent during the seven-day period beginning April 27. COVID-19 has now surpassed rhinovirus to become the most prevalent respiratory virus in circulation.

"The COVID-19 positivity rate is trending upward this month, with higher rates in southern provinces compared with those in the north. But the growth in some provinces has begun to slow," the agency said in a disease surveillance report released last week.
