In a recent statement, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday said that he had decided to promote Army Chief Gen Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal, citing his role in the recent conflict with India.
On Tuesday, the decision to promote General Munir was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shahbaz.
On the other hand, Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has made several statements about India that have stirred controversy and often escalated tensions between the two countries.
Sharif's comments often oscillate between calls for dialogue and provocative rhetoric, reflecting Pakistan's complex stance towards India, which involves balancing domestic political pressure, military influence and international diplomacy.
Pak PM Taking Credits?
Citing Geo News, PTI reported that during a conversation with a select group of journalists, Shehbaz talked about the four-day conflict with India and other issues.
Shari takes credit and said that it was his decision to promote the army chief. He added that he consults his elder brother and former three-time premier Nawaz Sharif on such crucial decisions.
He asserted that war only results in one party's victory and the other's loss. "Only lasting peace can guarantee a secure future.
After four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes, India and Pakistan agreed to end the conflict on May 10.
Shehbaz mentioned that any dialogue on terrorism between Pakistan and India would be led by their respective national security advisers, reported PTI.
Shehbaz's Tone For India
Prime Minister Shahbaz also said that Pakistan would raise four main issues in any future talks with India: Kashmir, water, trade and terrorism. He suggested that holding talks in a third country could be a good decision.
He also claimed that Israel "extensively supported India" during its conflict with Pakistan.
In the same conversation, Shehbaz said that Pakistan and India have returned to peace as an agreement has been reached between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two countries, Dunya News reported.
He also claimed that US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio played a key role in brokering the ceasefire with India. He said China, Turkey and other friendly countries strongly supported Pakistan.
Sharif's Allegation Against India
Following India's military operation after the Pahalgam attack, Sharif claims that the army shot down five Indian jets in retaliation.
He also accused India of "aggression" despite Pakistan's offer for a transparent probe into the Pahalgam attack and alleged that attacks were carried out on civilian areas, including a mosque.
Pak Blames India For Balochistan Bus Blast
On Wednesday, a deadly suicide bombing targeting a school bus in Balochistan killed five people, including three children.
Within hours of the blast, the Pakistan military blamed India and issued a statement, saying, 바카라œIndia is employing terror proxies as a state tool to foment terrorism in Pakistan against soft targets, including innocent children and civilians."
