The Trump administration said it is ready to recognize Russian control of Crimea as part of the US proposal to drive an end to the war with Ukraine, CNN reported.
Crimea, in southern Ukraine, has been under Russian occupation since its illegal annexation in 2014. Since Russia바카라s full-scale invasion in 2022, it has also partially occupied four other regions: Donetsk and Luhansk in the east, and Kherson and Zaporizhzhia in the south.
The U.S. proposal to end the war includes a ceasefire along the current front lines, a source told CNN on Friday. The framework was shared with European and Ukrainian officials in Paris on Thursday, the source said, and was also relayed to Russia during a phone call between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Kyiv has not immediately responded, but any U.S. move to recognize Russian control of Crimea is unlikely to be welcomed. In March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called recognition of occupied territories a 바카라red line,바카라 saying Ukraine would not accept them as Russian. Trump Wants To End The War
Despite US President Donald Trump바카라s claim that he would be able to end the war in Ukraine in one day, American attempts to reach a peace agreement have largely stalled in the face of Russian intransigence, leading to a growing sense of frustration in the White House.
After Rubio on April 18 warned that the US was ready to 바카라move on바카라 from efforts to bring peace to Ukraine within days if there were no tangible signs of progress, Trump offered a less hardline approach, saying that Rubio was 바카라right바카라 but projecting more optimism about the prospects of a deal.
Pressed on a timeline for the US to walk away, Trump said: 바카라No specific number of days, but quickly, we want to get it done.바카라
CNN reported that there are still pieces of the framework to be filled out, adding that the US plans to work with the Europeans and the Ukrainians on that next week in London. The Trump administration is simultaneously planning another meeting between Trump바카라s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and the Russians to get Moscow on board with the framework, the CNN report said.
