In a fresh push to enhance India's air defence arsenal, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday has approved the execution model of a fifth generation deep penetration advanced medium combat aircraft under the mega Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme.
Taking it to X, the defence ministry said on Tuesday, "In a major push for #AatmanirbharBharat in defence, Raksha Mantri Shri @rajnathsingh has approved the Execution Model for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (#AMCA) programme."
"The model ensures equal opportunity for public and private sectors, allowing bids from Indian companies, joint ventures, or consortia. An Expression of Interest (EoI) for the #AMCA Development Phase will be issued soon", the ministry statement further added.
It has been reported that the project will be executed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
The project was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, last year.
As per reports, the initial development cost of the project has been estimated at around Rs 15,000 crore. The IAF has been pushing for the AMCA project in view of its long-term requirement.
