Bengaluru Waterlogged After Heavy Overnight Rainfall, One Dead

A yellow alert was issued on May 18 to some regions in Karnataka, including Bengaluru, and remains valid for Monday and Tuesday as well.

Police in Bengaluru were seen rescuing stranded families on heavy-duty equipment and inflatable boats as several areas in the city submerged following overnight heavy rainfall on Monday.

Karnataka바카라™s State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre on X posted, "Scattered to widespread moderate rain with thunder and lightning in coastal districts and heavy rain at isolated places across the state in southern interior districts today and tomorrow, in northern interior districts from May 19 to 22 is expected."

Bengaluru received 104 mm of rain in the last 24 hours. The sudden heavy rainfall caused panic amongst civilians as they walked through knee-deep waterlogged roads, causing major disturbances in traffic and affecting public transport. Rain water also inundated people바카라™s homes, resulting in damage.

35-year-old housekeeper Shashikala died in Mahadevapura area after a compound wall collapsed on her following the heavy rainfall, PTI reported. She was a private sector employee.

IMD yesterday issued warnings of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the west coast, including Karnataka, Konkan and Goa and Kerala and adjoining Peninsular India during 18-24 May. The weather department also mentioned that an upper air cyclonic circulation is likely to form over east central Arabian Sea off Karnataka coast around May 21.

Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region around May 22, after which it will move northwards and intensify further.

Today바카라™s statement mentioned rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-50 km/hour over Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Kerala and Mahe.

Deeply concerned by the havoc caused by relentless rains in Bengaluru.
