The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for 11 states, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds. The affected states include Punjab, Assam, Haryana, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh. Residents can expect light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 40-50 km/h.

Additionally, Delhi is under a yellow alert with predictions of light showers, thunderstorms, and winds, while temperatures are expected to range between 35-37°C.

Other regions, including Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, may experience thunderstorms and moderate rains in the next couple of days .

Severe Weather Condition In Assam

Severe weather conditions continue to grip the Northeast as rain-induced floods and landslides have occurred, claiming at least 36 lives.

Over 5.5 lakh people have been affected by incessant rains in several states in the region, with Assam reporting the highest number of deaths at 11, followed by Arunachal Pradesh at 10, Meghalaya at six, Mizoram at five, Sikkim at three and Tripura at one. The situation remains grim as the IMD has forecast incessant rains in the region over the next six days.

Officials have confirmed that the air operation to evacuate stranded tourists from North Sikkim has been temporarily halted due to bad weather. Sources said the evacuation operation will resume once the weather improves.

According to information received from the Mangan district administration, around 120-140 tourists are stranded in Lachen, while around 40 tourists are at Chatan Army Camp. The NDRF has also reported the presence of 6-7 tourists in the area between Lachen and Zema.
