The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a red alert for rainfall for eight districts of Kerala, including Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode. An orange alert has also been issued for six other districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha and Thrissur.
Heavy rainfall is very likely continue at isolated places in Kerala over the next three-four days, the Met department said.
In view of the incessant torrential rainfall, several district administrations across the southern state have declared a holiday for all educational institutions on May 30. Moreover, the authorities have reportedly prohibited night-time travel in the high-range areas from 7pm to 6am.
Rainfall Predicted In Delhi, J&K
Owing to an upper air cyclonic circulation lying over west Rajasthan and another over the northern parts of central Uttar Pradesh, widespread thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected in the next four to five days in the northwestern regions of the country
Light-to-moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorm and gusty winds, is also likely in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.
16 Dead In Maharashtra In Rain-Related Incidents Since May 24
Rain-related incidents like landslides, lightning, tree or structure collapse have killed at least 16 people while 18 others have been injured in Maharashtra over the last five days, PTI reported citing a state government report.
Maharashtra this year experienced premature onset of monsoon. Almost all regions of the state have been affected due to heavy rains since May 24.
Pune district recorded three deaths, followed by two each in Thane, Latur and Bhandara, while one death each took place in Raigad, Ahilyanagar, Nagpur, Wardha, Chandrapur, Mumbai suburban and Gondia districts, the report said.
The report also said 41 animals died in extreme weather incidents in the state.
Rain, Thunderstorm Likely In Parts of Rajasthan
Rajasthan is likely to see light to moderate rain accompanied with thunderstorm over the next two days, the meteorological department said on Thursday. The places likely to get rain include parts of Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer and Jaipur divisions.
The local weather office said that many areas have already been lashed by rainfall and storms while others witnessed a cloudy weather on Thursday.
