India and Pakistan will continue to follow the May 10 understanding between themselves on cessation of hostilities for confidence building measures to reduce the alertness level, reported news agency PTI.
An Indian Army official spoke to PTI on Thursday who clarified that Pakistan military said the understanding on ending the hostilities has been extended until May 18.
Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has also reportedly confirmed on Thursday that the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of Pakistan and India talked over a hotline to discuss the ceasefire and the extension was finalised then.
India carried out precision strikes under 'Operation Sindoor' on terror infrastructure early on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.
Following the Indian action, Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9 and 10. The Indian forces launched a fierce counter-attack on several Pakistani military installations.
Quoting the official, PTI said, "Further to the understanding between the two DGMOs (Directors General of Military Operations) on May 10, it has been decided to continue the confidence building measures so as to reduce the alertness level."
"As situation develops further, we shall intimate you," he added.
