Actor Vincy Aloshious sparked a debate about use of drugs in Malyalam film industry when she expressed her decision `not to work with actors who use drugs'.. Her statement created a row online, leading to her revealing `the experience' which led her to take the decision.
Aloshious, on 14 April, posted a video on her social media pages accusing a male co-star of misbehaving with her. While she did not name anyone in the video, Actor Tom Chacko was suspected of being the mentioned co-star, as the two had recently worked together in a film.
"I was working on a film where one of the main actors used drugs and behaved inappropriately. It wasn바카라™t easy to work with him. There was an issue with my costume, and I was on the way to get it fixed. Out of nowhere, he insisted on coming with me, saying, 바카라˜I can help get it ready.바카라™ This was said in front of everyone, and it made the situation all the more uncomfortable," she said in the video.
She went on to say: "During a scene rehearsal, something white spilled from his mouth onto the table. It was very evident that he was using drugs on set, which created a nuisance for everyone around. It's one thing to use drugs in your personal life, but when it affects your professional environment, it becomes unacceptable. I don't want to work like that. I don't want to work with someone who isn't conscious of the impact their actions have on others. This is a decision based on my personal experience, and I stand by it. Everyone knew about this; the director even spoke with him."
Two days after accusing the co-star on social media, she filed formal complaints with the film's Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), where she named actor Shine Tom Chacko. The incident reportedly happened during the shoot for the film Soothravakyam, which stars both of them.
As per The Hindu, Excise Minister M.B. Rajesh says that the government has taken a serious view of the allegations and that further investigation will be done on the matter.
The Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), released a statement over the issue, and praised Vincy Aloshious for speaking out against her co-star.
They say in the statement: 바카라œOne thing that all women working in the film industry in Kerala should understand is that the Kerala High Court verdict has ensured that there must be an ICC on every film set. Each of us, as workers in the Malayalam film industry, must ensure that the ICC is in place on the sets where we work and register it on the portal."
They go on to say, "It is the responsibility of the producer to inform about the ICC and its members. It is also necessary to ensure that the ICC is approached if any complaints related to sexual harassment arise. To ensure the efficient functioning of the ICC, a monitoring committee has been formed under the leadership of the film chamber with the representation of film organisations. The efficient functioning of the ICC will enable women workers to work with dignity and equality."
