Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday did a surprise visit to Delhi University (DU), drawing criticism from university authorities and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who called the unannounced appearance a breach of protocol and a political stunt.
Gandhi spent nearly an hour at the Delhi University Students바카라 Union (DUSU) office, where he met with students from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) to discuss issues of representation and academic equity. While Congress sources described the visit as a grassroots engagement, the university administration expressed outrage over what it deemed an unauthorized and disruptive event.
"This is the second time Rahul Gandhi has come to the University without any prior intimation," said DU Proctor Prof. Rajni Abbi in a strongly worded statement. "The DUSU office was cordoned off by security during his visit, causing a disruption to student governance activities."
According to the university, members of the Congress-affiliated National Students바카라 Union of India (NSUI) were involved in misconduct during the visit. Several students were allegedly locked inside the DUSU Secretary바카라s office, and the Secretary herself was reportedly denied access to her workplace. The university called the events "unacceptable" and warned of disciplinary action against those found responsible.
BJP Slams Visit as Political Gimmick
The visit also drew fierce criticism from the BJP, with party leaders accusing Gandhi of exploiting the university for political gain. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya dismissed the visit as a 바카라photo-op circus바카라 and claimed it plunged the campus into chaos.
바카라Caught off guard, the DU administration was forced to manage a situation that should never have occurred,바카라 Malviya posted on X (formerly Twitter). He also circulated a video clip showing a female student confronting Gandhi over his recent comments on Pahalgam and the Indian security forces.
바카라Amidst the staged optics, the real moment came when angry students demanded answers,바카라 Malviya wrote.
Political Fallout
The incident is likely to intensify ongoing friction between the ruling BJP and the Congress party, particularly over student politics and institutional autonomy.
While Gandhi바카라s team argues that the visit highlighted real concerns faced by marginalized student communities, DU authorities and BJP leaders see it as a violation of university norms and an attempt to politicize academic spaces.
