Kannada actress Ranya Rao's bail application was rejected in the Economic Offences Court in a gold smuggling case. As reported by news agency ANI, the second accused in the Ranya Rao gold smuggling case, Tarun Konduru, filed a bail application in the Economic Offences court.
While the actor's bail plea has been rejected, the second accused's bail plea will be heard tomorrow at 3 PM.
About The Case
Actor Ranya Rao was arrested last week at Bengaluru Airport for smuggling over 14 kilograms of gold into the country. As per reports, some of the gold was strappedto her waist and the inside of her calves.
On Wednesday, the actor claimed she had been "denied of her right to sleep," as she argued for her bail in the case.
As per the actor's lawyer, Rao was "not allowed to rest or sleep" during the case. This claim follows after the actor stated that she was "verbally tortured and threatened" while she was in custody.
Rao, who is the stepdaughter of Ramachandra Rao - a senior police official serving as Chairman and Managing Director of the Karnataka -- was caught on March 3 after she arrived from Dubai with gold bars worth Rs 14.56 crore.
Following this, officials searched her house and recovered gold worth Rs 2 crore and Rs 2.67 crore in cash.
