The fresh bail petition for Nirav Modi was rejected again on Thursday by the High Court of Justice in London, according to the press release by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
바카라The bail arguments were strongly opposed by the Crown Prosecution Service advocate who was ably assisted by a strong CBI team consisting of investigating and law officers who travelled to London for this purpose,바카라 the press release mentioned.
The statement also mentioned that since the CBI could successfully defend the case, Modi바카라s bail was rejected. This was his 10th bail petition since his detention in the United Kingdom.
What did Modi do?
Modi is an economic offender and a fugitive - who fled India along with his uncle Mehul Choksi - after defrauding Punjab National Bank (PNB). The statement mentioned that Modi is wanted in India for trial of the aforementioned scam worth 6498.20 crore.
The 2018 PNB fraud case has been one of the biggest the country has seen. 65-year-old Choksi was arrested in Belgium earlier last month. Indian authorities initiated an extradition request - to bring the fugitive back to India.
Both fled India around the same time in 2018, but to different destinations. Choksi obtained citizenship in Antigua and Barbuda through the Citizenship by Investment program. Modi on the other hand fled to the United Arab Emirates, and then moved to various locations to escape arrest.
He was finally arrested on the request of Indian authorities in 2019 in the United Kingdom, and was presented in the Westminster Magistrates' Court. Throughout his detention, Modi has participated in court proceedings via video link from prison. As of May 2024, Modi's bail was denied for the seventh time labeled as 'Flight Risk', and he continued to be held at HM Prison Thameside, while contesting extradition to India.
