The Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans lost their Indian Premier League 2025 Eliminator match against Mumbai Indians, bringing an end to their campaign after a strong season at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, New Chandigarh on Friday night.
After a rollercoaster season that saw them rise from an eighth-place finish last year to a strong third-place spot in the league stage, the Titans바카라 campaign came to a halt just short of the final weekend.
Chasing a daunting target of 229, GT showed remarkable fight -- especially through the classy Sai Sudharsan, whose elegant 80 off 49 balls kept the game alive until the 16th over. But in the end, the Titans fell short, closing their innings at 208/6.
Gill, recently named India바카라s Test captain ahead of the World Test Championship final, called it a 바카라brilliant game of cricket,바카라 adding, 바카라We were right in it. The last three-four overs didn바카라t go our way, but still a good game.바카라
IPL 2025 Eliminator: GT's Catch Drops
However, the captain was quick to acknowledge the costly fielding lapses as Gujarat dropped three catches on the night -- two of them offering lifelines to Rohit Sharma, who went on to punish them with a match-winning 81 off 50 balls.
Apparently, after Mendis' slip it marked the 26th dropped catch this season for GT-- the most by any team in IPL 2025. They had dropped just five in their first five games, but the number has exceeded to 21 in the next 10 matches, including tonight.
"Definitely not easy when we drop three sitters. It wasn바카라t easy for the bowlers to control, and it doesn바카라t help when you drop three catches,바카라 he said.
Also, Jonny Bairstow, making his Mumbai debut, smashed 47 off 22 balls to give the innings an explosive start. The Mumbai top order capitalized on the Titans바카라 lapses in the field, which proved costly in the end.
Nevertheless, despite the fielding woes, Gill had nothing but praise for his young side, particularly Washington Sundar (48 off 24) and Sudharsan. 바카라The message was simple -- just play the game you want to play,바카라 said Gill. 바카라The goal was the same for both of them -- to make us win.바카라
The skipper himself couldn바카라t make an impact with the bat, falling for just 1 after being trapped leg-before by Trent Boult in the first over.
On the night with his brilliant knock, Gujarat Titans' young sensation Sai Sudharsan carved out a slice of IPL history, becoming the youngest player to breach the 700-run mark in a single season against Mumbai Indians In Eliminator.
The 23-year-old is the orange cap holder with 759 runs in the 18th edition of IPL and is also the fifth-highest runs scored by a batter in a single edition. Read the full story HERE.
Sai Sudharsan was especially lauded for his terrific season, with Gill believing, 바카라Definitely lot of positives for us. Last 2-3 games didn't go our way but credit to all the players, especially Sai 바카라 he was terrific for us this season.바카라
Despite heavy dew making the pitch slightly easier to bat on, Gill felt the Titans were always chasing a few too many. 바카라210 would've been par for us on this pitch,바카라 he said, underscoring the pressure created by early misfields and dropped chances.
This loss marks the end of a strong journey for Gujarat Titans, who have come a long way since their title-winning debut season in 2022 under Hardik Pandya.
Now Mumbai Indians will meet Punjab Kings in the qualifier 2 match on June 1, Sunday.
