The development was confirmed by head coach Stephen Fleming on the eve of CSK's crucial home clash against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), after regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament due to an elbow fracture.
Gaikwad, who took over the reins from Dhoni in 2024, sustained the injury during CSK바카라s match against Rajasthan Royals on 30 March in Guwahati.
The blow came from a sharp delivery by Tushar Deshpande that struck Gaikwad바카라s unguarded elbow in just the second over. Despite the pain, the 27-year-old showed immense grit, continuing his innings to score a valuable 63.
He even played two more matches after the injury 바카라 managing 5 against Delhi Capitals and 1 against Punjab Kings 바카라 before being sidelined.
At the time of his injury ruling him out, Gaikwad was CSK바카라s second-highest run-getter in the season, having scored 122 runs in five games at an impressive strike rate of 150.61.
This will mark Dhoni바카라s return as captain after last leading CSK to the IPL title in 2023. That final, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, was a two-day thriller affected by rain, where CSK edged past Gujarat Titans (GT) in a dramatic title clash.
At 43, Dhoni extends his own record as the oldest player to lead an IPL side, and will now notch up yet another milestone as he captains CSK in his 270th IPL appearance 바카라 the most by any player in the league바카라s history.
Across more than 220 games as captain, Dhoni has carved out a legacy unmatched in Indian Premier League folklore. His leadership record boasts a win percentage of 58.84%, and he has been the face of CSK since the league's inception.
