Mohun Bagan 3-2 Kerala Blasters Highlights, ISL 2024-25: Alberto Screamer Snatches Last-Gasp Win For Mariners

The two teams have faced each other eight times in the league, with Mohun Bagan emerging victorious in six encounters. Kerala Blasters won once, whereas only a single game resulted in a draw.

We are off at the the Vivekananda Yuba Krirangan, and Vishal Kaith is called into action straightaway. The Mohun Bagan goalie is forced to tip the ball over the bar, after Noah Sadaoui pounces on a stray ball outside the box. The shot gets a deflection, but is on target nevertheless. Two minutes later, another save is needed from Kaith. This time it is Jesus Jimenez's shot from his left foot which the goalie tumbles to collect. Kerala Blasters piling on the pressure right from the get go. This could be fun!

A couple of missed attempts on either end. First, Blasters' Danish Farooq takes a shot from his right foot from the centre of the box, but misses to the right. Barely a minute hence, home team forward Liston Colaco's shot from outside the box is too high.

Here's a telling stat. Mohun Bagan have given the ball away 12 times in the first 19 minutes of play. That gives a measure of how well Kerala Blasters have exerted pressure, and perhaps how the hosts have been off the boil so far.

We head into the 30-minute drinks break goalless, though the Blasters would certainly be the happier of the two sides thus far.

And just as we were talking about the Kochi side's dominance thus far, they let one slip. It is ostensibly the folly of visiting team's goalie Sachin Suresh that gifts Bagan the lead. Asish Rai's shot prompts a save from Suresh, but instead of catching or parrying it to the side, the custodian palms it straight towards Jamie Maclaren, who gleefully accepts the offering. The home team have the advantage, against the run of play.

And the half-time whistle is sounded. A frustrating for Kerala Blasters, to say the least. After creating a series of chances and exerting pressure on the Mohun Bagan defence, they find themselves one goal down in the interval, owing largely to a glaring error from custodian Sachin Suuresh. Nevertheless, they must regroup and claw their way back in the second half.

Play resumes, and Mohun Bagan are now attacking from left to right. Despite the one-goal deficit, the Blasters would do well to remember their ascendance prior to Mclaren's strike, and replicate it in the second half to have a shot at a comeback in Bagan's den.

And we have the equalizer! Another goalkeeping mistake, this time from Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Kaith, who passes the ball to captain Subhashish in close range. The defender loses the ball under pressure and Jimenez unleashes a stinging right-footer that beats Kaith and brings the Blasters right back in the game.

A battle of attrition has been on ever since Jimenez's equaliser. There have been a few attempts and missed chances too, including a big one for the Blasters when Noah Sadaoui was denied by a fingertips save from Kaith.

Well, well, well. Here's a sight unseen for several weeks. Mohun Bagan trail at the Salt Lake Stadium. It appears to be a night of goalkeeping errors. Kaith fumbles what appeared to be straightforward catch and Milos Drincic makes no mistake to send it in and put the Blasters in the lead.

For the second time in the night, Mohun Bagan have found a way back in the game. It is substitute Jason Cummings' turn to shine, as he meets Dimitri Petratos' cross perfectly to equalise for the hosts. And the Salt Lake Stadium springs back to life.

My, oh my! Quite an extraordinary climax to this encounter. Just when a draw seemed ordained, Alberto Rodriguez lets rip a sumptuous half-volley that whistles past Suresh in the fifth and final minute of added time. And Bagan win it by the skin of their teeth, in the 11th hour.

The thrilling win keeps Mohun Bagan firmly on top of the ISL standings with 26 points from 11 games, while the Kerala Blasters stay in 10th place with 11 points.

The victorious Mohun Bagan will travel to Fatorda for their next game against FC Goa on December 20. As for Kerala Blasters, they will welcome Mohammedan Sporting in Kochi on December 22.
