Kamal Haasan starrer, Mani Ratnam-directorial, Thug Life was released in theatres worldwide on June 5, 2025, by Red Giant Movies in standard, IMAX, and EPIQ formats. Apart from Tamil, the action thriller released in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. The movie opened to mixed reviews, mostly negative and is currently struggling at the box office. Thug Life's box office collection in India stands at approximately Rs 47.28 crore, in 13 days.
There have been reports that Thug Life might arrive on OTT early. Reports claim that it might release on Netflix on June 27. However, there is no official confirmation yet from the streaming giant.
When is Thug Life releasing on OTT?
As per a report in One India, the film is not releasing on June 27. The pre-agreed clause of the eight-week window will be followed.
Kamal Haasan, while promoting Thug Life clarified that he would follow the traditional eight-week window for Thug Life's OTT premiere. He had said, "It's not even an experiment, but the pragmatic thing to do. I am glad that the OTT partners sat down with us and agreed. It wasn't a negotiation, it was a plan. We hope others can follow this, and it will make the industry healthy."
The film is expected to have its digital premiere in July. It is likely to release in Karnataka over the weekend after the Supreme Court recently criticised the Karnataka government over the film being not screened in the state.
For the unversed, the movie faced ban in the state over Kamal Haasan's controversial remarks on Kannada language.
As per a report in Binged website, Thug Life will be available to stream on Netflix from July 3, 2025.
