India is witnessing a continued and concerning rise in Covid-19 infections, with 203 new Covid-19 infections and four fatalities in the past 24 hours, pushing the country바카라s active caseload to 3,961, according to the Union Health Ministry바카라s latest update on Monday morning.
Kerala remains the worst-affected state, with 1,435 active cases, followed by Maharashtra (506), Delhi (483), Gujarat (338), and West Bengal (331). Other states seeing an uptick include Karnataka (253), Tamil Nadu (189), Uttar Pradesh (157), and Rajasthan (69).
The surge has been rapid: active cases rose from just 257 on May 22 to 1,010 by May 26 바카라 and have now nearly quadrupled, reaching 3,961 as of June 2.
The four reported deaths include one each from Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Maharashtra. The deceased in Delhi was a 22-year-old woman with a history of treated pulmonary Koch바카라s (tuberculosis), post-TB lung disease, and bilateral lower respiratory tract infection. Tamil Nadu reported the death of a 25-year-old man with bronchial asthma, severe acute tubular injury, and an incidental Covid-19 infection.
In Maharashtra, a 44-year-old man with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome and dilated aortic regurgitation succumbed to the virus while details regarding the fatality in Kerala are still awaited.
Among the newly reported infections, Delhi registered 47 cases, West Bengal 44, Kerala 35, Maharashtra 21, and Gujarat 18.
Meanwhile, 370 patients have been discharged in the last 24 hours, according to the ministry.
In response to the uptick, states are activating contingency plans, reinforcing hospital readiness, and ensuring the availability of essential supplies such as oxygen, antiviral medications, ventilators, and critical care beds.
The fresh Covid cases surge is driven largely by emerging Omicron sub-variants. As the situation evolves, health authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant but calm, emphasizing that most new cases are mild and manageable at home.
In response, the Delhi government had earlier issued a hospital advisory, instructing medical facilities to ensure availability of oxygen supplies, medicines, hospital beds, and life-support systems such as ventilators and BiPAP machines.
The Karnataka health department too has also sent an alert to Health Care Workers (HCWs) in all healthcare areas across the state. It listed key instructions for healthcare staff: regularly screen and report cases of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI), Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI), and cases with co-morbidities through the P-Form on the IDSP-IHIP platform.
In Delhi, the State Chief minister Rekha Gupta while reassuring the public not to worry as 바카라the Government will handle the situation,바카라 she said, 바카라The government is alert and hospitals are prepared to deal with any eventuality."
Despite the rising numbers, health authorities continue to urge the public to remain calm and follow Covid hygiene norms. The Union Health Ministry and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) maintain that most cases are mild and manageable under home care.
The spike in cases is believed to be linked to the emergence of Omicron sub-variants including LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and NB.1.8.1, which have been identified in southern and western India through genome sequencing.
The variants are not causing severe disease and remain classified by the World Health Organization as 바카라Variants Under Monitoring,바카라 not 바카라Variants of Concern.바카라
