A Mexican Navy training vessel struck the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday evening, leaving two people dead and at least 19 others injured, New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed to BBC.

The ARM CuauhtĂ©moc, a tall-masted sailboat on a goodwill mission, reportedly lost power as it attempted to pass under the iconic bridge. Video footage captured the vessel바카라™s towering masts clipping the structure, sending debris crashing onto the deck below.

According to US officials, 277 personnel were aboard the ship when the collision occurred. Authorities confirmed that no one fell into the water and all individuals have been accounted for. Of the 19 injured, two remain in critical condition. Mexico's navy earlier reported 22 injuries and has launched an investigation into the incident, BBC reported.

The New York Coast Guard said the ship lost the tops of two masts. Several crew members were reportedly stationed on the rigging during the crash, contributing to the fatalities and injuries.

The Brooklyn Bridge sustained no major structural damage, officials said, but the impact caused alarm as onlookers fled from nearby waterfront areas. Police urged the public to avoid South Street Seaport, DUMBO, and the Brooklyn Bridge vicinity due to emergency activity.

The Cuauhtémoc, a 297-foot-long, 40-foot-wide vessel commissioned in 1982, departed Acapulco, Mexico on April 6 with cadets concluding their naval training. Its final destination was Iceland.

The ship has since been towed away, as investigations by both U.S. and Mexican authorities continue into the cause바카라”believed to be mechanical failure and a power outage
