The nomination of Senator Kamala Harris as Vice-President is expected to be a game changer favouring the Democrat Party in the November US Presidential elections. The New Yorker said that the nomination of the first African-American woman and the first person of Asian descent gave a new 바카라meaning to the Biden campaign바카라 with 바카라thematic clarity바카라 which was not there earlier. It said that the 77-year-old Biden had been saying throughout his campaign that he was just a 바카라transitional바카라 figure바카라a generational bridge: 바카라Now we know a bit more about who may come next.바카라
바카라National Public Radio바카라 which reaches 32.7 million listeners gave several reasons for this 바카라historic바카라 nomination. First of all 바카라putting a qualified person of colour바카라is a statement against Trump바카라. It showed Biden바카라s decision-making quality that he was willing to listen to people who disagreed with him compared to Trump who valued the 바카라fealty바카라. On the other hand, Trump바카라s attacks on Harris as 바카라mean, nasty and disrespectful바카라 would 바카라only fire up women and the Democratic base바카라. Another advantage may be that Harris would have no problem in her scheduled debate with Vice President Pence in Utah on October 7.
Despite marked euphoria after this announcement, one needs to consider the hard facts on the composition of the electorate. The Whites have overall preponderance with 72.8% in 2018, although it fell from 85.2% in 1990. Blacks are a far second with only 11.9%, although it increased from 9.6% in 1990. The Hispanics were 9.6% from 3.5 in 1990. The share of Asians including Indians rose from 1.15% in 1990 to 3.5% in 2018.
On the overall acceptance, 바카라Newsweek바카라 quoted a Georgetown University/ Battleground National poll during August 1-6 showing that 44% had preferred Harris nationally. Race wise, she was preferred by 64-15% among Black voters, 41-39% by White voters and 39-32% of Hispanic voters.
Although Harris was criticised for 바카라Excessive Policing바카라 as California바카라s Attorney General, she has received support from Ben Crump, Civil Rights attorney of the 바카라Black Racial Justice Movement바카라 (BRJM) who became famous for representing the family of the 17-year-old Trayvon Martin who was killed in Sanford, Florida. Crump said: 바카라She has been a trailblazer for reform-minded prosecutors nationwide.바카라 BRJM led to the 바카라Black Lives Matter바카라 movement in 2013.
NBC News (August 13) felt that Harris could help mobilise diverse Latino voters and pull in record numbers of naturalised citizen voters.
Indian-Americans of all hues, except the 바카라Hindutva Groups바카라, have welcomed nomination of Senator Kamala Harris. 바카라American Bazaar바카라, a leading Indian-American voice has reported that the 바카라Asian-American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Victory Fund바카라, which is a 바카라Super-PAC바카라, while supporting Harris바카라 elevation, has pledged to deliver one million Indian-American votes for Biden. A Super-PAC can raise unlimited contributions for independent political activity. Another group 바카라Impact바카라 is spending US$10 million to help Democrats recapture the White House through 1.3 million Indian-Americans who are likely to vote in November.
As against this, her detractors say that she is too close to the Israeli lobby which might alienate her from Arab-Americans who support Palestinian rights. In January 2017, she was a co-sponsor among 70 Senators of a Senate Resolution criticising UN Security Council Resolution 2334 of December 2016 on Israel expanding into the Palestinian territories. As a result, she is alleged to be closer to Benjamin Netanyahu. In the US, she was supporting the pro-Conservative America-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) against the liberal American Jewish campaign group called 바카라J Street바카라 which wants Israel to talk with Palestinians. How far this will result in dividing the American-Muslim votes is not yet clear.
We should not be too sanguine about the final outcome remembering what 바카라The Atlantic바카라 had said in June 2019 before Covid-19 hit America. The surge among voters in 2020 elections which could hit a record 156 million from 139 in 2016 might not necessarily be to the benefit of Democrats. It might not dislodge the importance of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, the three White working class 바카라Rust Belt바카라 States, which had voted for Trump. Also the deliberate delay by Trump-appointed Post Master General in delivering 바카라Mail-in Votes바카라 might result in cancellation of thousands of Democrat votes.
