Angry locals went on rampage and clashed with police at Chingrighata crossing on Eastern Metropolitan Bypass, one of the busiest points of Kolkata, on Saturday morning after a bus reportedly jumped signal and killed two youths.
The accident occurred at 11 am at the busy Chingrighata crossing. The local people alleged that the bus jumped a traffic signal and hit the two men 바카라“ Biswajit Bhuiyan and Sanjay Banik, both first-year college students 바카라“ who live in a locality close to the accident site, PTI reported. The bus driver then fled the spot, reports said.
The agitated locals staged a protest against the road accident and torched five buses.
The police resorted to lathicharge to take a control of the situation.
Meanwhile, local MLA, Trinamool Congress바카라™s Sujit Bose, later visited the spot. 바카라śIt was an unfortunate accident but I urge people to remain calm,바카라ť NDTV quoted him as saying.
The MLA promised that senior police officers would speak to the people who live in nearby localities and address their grievances. 바카라śI have spoken to the locals,바카라ť Bose said. 바카라śThey want a subway to cross the busy road.바카라ť
