A video circulating on the internet shows a group of men dressed in black pouring petrol over themselves and threatening to set themselves on fire in a symbolic protest against the arrest of a key Arambai Tenggol leader on Saturday.

Protests erupted in  Manipur after an Arambai Tenggol leader - Kanan Meitei - was arrested by a joint team of National Investigation Agency and Manipur Police in Imphal West, as per The Hindu. The clashes injured at least three people in Imphal.

Founded in 2020 as a cultural outfit, Arambai Tenggol professes to champion the interests of the Meitei - the predominant ethnic group in the state - becoming one of two hardline Meitei groups suspected of involvement in the Meitei-Kuki clashes of May 2023.

The protestors torched tyres and old furniture in the middle of the road demanding an immediate release of the leader, PTI reported. The situation remains tense in the area as of Sunday morning with a total curfew imposed in Bishnupur district. Security has been amplified along the Raj Bhavan with additional reinforcement from the central forces.

Following protests on Saturday evening in Manipur바카라™s Imphal, internet and data services have been suspended across all districts in Manipur바카라™s central valley.

Prohibitionary orders have also been imposed in the area banning the assembly of more than five people under sub-section 2 of Section 163 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Carrying sticks, stones, firearms, or sharp weapons has also been banned.

"The Superintendent of Police in Imphal West has reported serious breach to peace, disturbance to public tranquillity, riot or affray in the area, and grave danger to human lives and properties due to unlawful activities of anti-social elements,바카라ť the district magistrate of Imphal West said in a statement.

Manipur has been reeling under ethnic violence for two years - killing 260 people, injuring 1,500 and displacing over 70,000.
