A tragic incident unfolded in western Assam's Nalbari district as three persons, including two schoolchildren, were reported missing after a country-made passenger boat capsized in the Brahmaputra River on Thursday, June 19. The boat was reportedly carrying more than 100 passengers, mostly children going to school.

The Hindu reported that the boat from the Peradhara Ferry Ghat to Larkuchi met with an accident in a tributary of the Brahmaputra.

As per media reports, the three reported missing are 50-year-old Abdul Gafur, Aryan Ali, a Class 3 student, and Majidul Islam, a Class 9 student.

Sharing further details, Nalbari District Commissioner Nibedan Das Patowary said six divers of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are engaged in the search and rescue operation.

바카라The roof of the boat collapsed, leading to the incident. Three people are reported missing while the others on board swam ashore,바카라 he told The Hindu.

He also mentioned that the Inland Water Transport (IWT) lodged a first information report against the boat operator, who was found to have violated the law by using a non-marine engine.

Back in 2021, a similar accident occurred on the Brahmaputra in eastern Assam바카라s Jorhat district when the IWT directed all private boats to replace their single engines with marine engines.
