Bengaluru Weather Today: Heavy To Very Heavy Rainfall Forecast Across Karnataka

According to the weather department, rainfall over one of two places in Karnataka on Wednesday can range from heavy to very heavy, accompanied with thundershowers and gusty winds up to 50 kmph.

In continuation to the past two days, India바카라™s Meteorological Department (IMD) has again issued warnings of heavy to very heavy rainfall, and isolated extremely heavy rainfall, with winds speeding up to 30-40 kmph for coastal Karnataka; while heat wave conditions will prevail over isolated regions in Haryana and Rajasthan. Heavy rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in Maharashtra as well.

According to the weather department, rainfall over one of two places in Karnataka on Wednesday can range from heavy to very heavy, accompanied with thundershowers and gusty winds up to 50 kmph.

Light to moderate rain and thundershowers with gusty winds can occur at most places over Dakshina Kannada district, while the temperature in Bengaluru city ranged from  26.8 degree celsius to 21.7 degree celsius in the past 24 hours, in the forecast dated May 20.

The IMD had issued a red alert (extremely heavy rainfall above 204.5 mm) for coastal Karnataka on May 20 and May 21 and until 8.30 a.m. on May 22. Yesterday, BBMP Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao visited the waterlogged spots in Silk Board Junction for inspection.

In Karnataka, Udupi received the maximum rainfall between 8.30AM of May 20 to 07.30AM of May 21. For the past two days, Bangalore has been waking up to heavy pre-monsoon rains - waterlogging roads, stranding commuters, traffic jams and weather warnings.

On Monday, a woman died when a compound wall collapsed on her following the heavy rainfall, while yesterday, two women died in Tamil Nadu in a rain related incident. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike was seen distributing Food and water to the rain affected areas of Sai Layout in Mahadevapura Zone.

At least five people have died in rain related tragedies, including Shashikala D (32), a sweeper who died when a compound wall collapsed in , and a 63-year-old man and a 12-year-old boy who got electrocuted while attempting to pump water out of their flooded portico in south Bengaluru. Two more people died due to lightning strikes in Raichur and Karwar, Economic Times reported.

Predictions of very heavy rainfall, accompanied by lightning, thunderstorm and strong surface wind remain for Coastal Karnataka tomorrow, May 22, while for north and south Karnataka, the rainfall will range to heavy, accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning.
